Professional Statement

Why I Want To Be A Teacher?  Everyone has modest goals when entering the teaching profession.  We all want to help better the educational system, we want to have an influence on children’s lives and inspire them, and we want to help them succeed in life.  These are all things that every teacher wants to accomplish, and I am no exception.

Why specifically do I want to teach?  I want to teach because I love mathematics, and I want to share my excitement and enthusiasm with everyone.  If I can just reach one child and pass on some of my enthusiasm to that child, then I have succeeded in accomplishing my goal as a teacher.  However, it doesn’t stop there; I will endeavor to share my enthusiasm with as many children as possible, and
expectantly will convey the excitement of mathematics.

Teaching is a very honorable and admirable profession.  It takes a special person and special character to be a teacher.  I am extremely excited, and look forward to being a representative of this most prestigious and highly esteemed profession.

Career Goals

My main goal is to teach mathematics for a rural school district.  I want to continue my education and eventually pursue an administrative degree so that if I decide, I can at sometime in my career serve a school district as a principal or superintendent.  I also want to work on my PhD because I have an interest in teaching mathematics at the college level.

Educational Philosophy

Education is what allows us to question our knowledge and our understanding of the world around us.  One important aspect to education is critical thinking. Critical thinking is necessary to promote two-way interaction between teachers and students, and provide for student-directed learning.  It’s important that we as teachers initiate this process in order to promote independent learning.
